wet or dry lubricant for the window slides/gear?

just cleaned and lubed my sunroof mechanism using dry lubricants - used dri lube stick on the cables and sprayed crc dry glide with teflon on all sliding surfaces. no mess, won't attract dust etc and works well.

so i'm thinking of using dry lubricants when reassembling the window regulators and other sliding hardware inside the door. searched the archives and didn't find any threads on this.

any views on how well this will/won't work on the regulator gears and sliding surfaces? and how long will it last? if wet grease is better, what kind of grease?

white lithium grease seems to work very well. Did my windows/regulators two years ago and no degradation at all. I like the dry lube for the sunroof because it keeps the channels clean and they get exposed to more dust/muck when driving with the sunroof open.

BMW uses a honey colored grease in the lock / latch mechanisms, as well as the sliders, originally. I actually had a tube of the stuff once - real BMW and everything. If it was my car (and it has been....many times) I'd use a wheel bearing / CV joint grease (Molykote, whatever). I definitely WOULD NOT USE LITHIUM GREASE, as it turns into a crappy CLAY LIKE substance after a while. I use lithium ONLY for sealing out water in things I've lubricated with OTHER greases already - or for pressing in tight bushings in control arms and stuff.

answer - wet grease (wolfs head blue, redline pink synth, Moly grease, bearing grease....whatever you can get.)

HTH!

yeah, heard about lithium turning clayey. i went mad with lithium a few years ago and used it on door locks, hinges, and the like - the stuff doesn't seem to last, just seemed to disappear. moly sounds like a good bet and i can get it downunder. thanks all.
