I just bought a 71 '02 from it's original owner. It has been 17 years since my last '02. In one of the many boxes of parts is the Frigiking compressor. The person who sold me this car says the compressor siezed. Does anyone have a working Frigiking compressor? Can these compressor be rebuilt? Are their kits? Is there a viable replacement brand that I can use instead of Frigking? I live near Virginia Beach and I really need the A/C to work.

Thanks

If it looks anything like this one, you can have it. I have a brand new comp that has a different mount. The guy I bought the car from said that it worked, but it had no freon in it. You're welcome to try this one out, if it's good you're in luck. I don't think it's seized or anything, the clutch worked when you turned it on last year when I took it out.

I'm just down the road in Elizabeth City.

It looks like it. I certainly won't turn it down. Let me know how I can get a hold of you off-line and when would be a good time to get it.

The compressor in the pic is a York compressor. Fridgeking is the manufacturer of the a/c system...they don't manufacter compressors. You can still get a new York compressor. I believe Vintage Air (.com) can hook you up. The York brand did get bought out by another company so the brand name may be different now...same compressor though.

I'd seriously consider converting to a rotary compressor (Sanden, Sankyo etc). You can buy adaptor brackets to convert the York mount to the rotary mount.

Rotaries are lighter, provide more cooling with less power drain and best of all, don't cause engine shake at idle when engaged like the piston compressors do.

I converted my 73 in 1981 after having two Yorks die in two years, and the rotary is still going strong...
