The last time I started the '75 up, I heard a loud rattle/clatter and immediately shut it back down. Oil level was low, so I changed and refilled the oil, then pulled the rocker/cam cover because I thought I had a broken rocker (284 cam) everything was OK, checked clearances on all valves and all were OK. next I pulled the timing chain tensioner spring and observed amount of wear (somewhat loose and sloppy) and slack and the take up of the slack (looked OK) when the timing chain tensioner was actuated with a screwdriver. peinstalled the timing chain tensioner spring assembly an the rocker/cam cover. I restarted the engine and heard the metallic chanking- rattle again. I ran it long enough to determine that the sound is not engine speed dependent and it seems to be coming from cylinders 3or 4. Does anyone have a suttestion about what else to check before I pull the engine and tear it down?

install a BRAND NEW TIMING CHAIN TENSIONER

and, when did the noise start? after redlining the motor ?

the noise just started ?????

oil pressure gauge test readings-

the tensioner also holds tension with oil pressure - and pumping up

and sealing oil inside it -
