(link - http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.aspx?id=49539057&key=376198) - thought of a way for somebody who's got enough time on their hands to make the arrangements to get a turbo project for halfway decent $$:

Work out a "Touring for Turbo" trade with the guy in Japan who has the blue Turbo with the standard engine and auto trans, buy the RHD touring and ship it him in Japan (that way it goes to a place where RHD isn't a liability), then ship the LHD Turbo here.

Probably too many issues with the Turbo to make it worthwhile, but it would be an interesting to see if whole process would work.

there was a post a day or two ago regarding an auction in NZ for a decent looking early RHD touring for sale (see the link in the original message above); the auction had a couple of days to run, and the bids were only up to about $1500 US.

In addition, there were several posts over the last couple of weeks regarding a LHD drive '02 Turbo located in Japan that had been painted blue and had a non-turbo M10 engine and auto trans installed that was also for sale.

Looking at both cars from my "North America centric" perspective and knowing what legit '02 Turbo's have sold for in the US recently, the thought occured to me that for someone in the US who wanted a turbo project, it might be worth trying to engineer a swap with the guy who's selling the Turbo in Japan (trade the Touring for the Turbo), ship the Touring to Japan then ship the Turbo here. Part of the the thinking process was that the RHD Touring would be more at home in Japan than the LHD Turbo would be.........

Anyhow, sorry if my ruminations caused confusion.
