Hi, Would anyone have an estimate on changing front brake pads, rotors on a 1973 bmw 2002. Apparently, my front brakes are gone and also need to change or reset bearings.

Thank you.

Well I don't know if you are talking about doing it yourself or paying someone. DIY costs:

Rotors: $100 + machining at $15 a rotor = $130

Pads: $40-60

Brake fluid: $5

Wheel bearings: $10 inner, $10 outer X 2 sides = ~$40

High temp grease: $5

If the rubber flex brake lines havn't been replaced, then i'd put on Stainless Steel braided brake lines while you are at it, they cost about $90 a set.

If you pay someone, you will pay all that plus labor at about $60 an hour, and I bet they could do it in a couple of hours..

Hope this helps. I just went through this, this is how I know.

Bryan, Thanks for your quick reply. A mechanic gave me an $320 estimate. I had no idea on how much it would cost so I thought I'd ask.

I guess $320 is reasonable then.

Thanks again,

$100 for rotors? I bought a set for $50+ shipping. I believe it was from MBZ.org but their website currently does not have BMW parts.

Here is a price from Ireland Engineering

Product SKU Description Price

Brake Rotor 2002

02br Brake Rotor- 2002 front $24.00

Do you mean $100 for a set, or as another option, $30 if you decide to have them machined?

...and last I checked, you don't need to machine new rotors. At least I never have.

Plus, I think I got bearings for not much more than $5 per side at my local parts store--they're a very common size--and decent pads (like PBR) are usually more like $25 to $30 through any of the WorldPac affiliates (European Automotive, the Parts Bin and Autohaus Arizona are all ones I've used). Where did your prices come from?
