My 1973 Tii has an oversized tank that I suspect is from a 3 series. The top surface sits about 3.5 inches above the longitudinal brace that divides the fuel tank area from the spare tire. There are two round access holes in the top ... one is for the fuel pick up/return, and the other is for the level sensor. The shape of the tank is perfect for the space, but at least one mounting hole does not line up with the holes in the flange.

Does anyone know what car this is from and its capacity ? What is the best way to mount the plywood floor boards so the floor will be even ? If anyone has done this, I would appreciate a pictue or description.

thanks for the help

could it be a turbo tank?? i dont know much about these but i saw a turbo tank on ebay and it was tall as hell and sounds like what you are describing. i would make shims out of 1x stock to raise the floor to the needed height

If it fits in the standard hole and is apporx 70ltrs in vol it is a turbo tank. My wooden frame in my turbo is made out of 1.5" stock allowing the floor panels to butt against each other. The other advantage to the raised floor is you can get a bigger spare under the floor boards.

Alpina made a touring tank with larger capacity. They were sold through some dealers, Miller and Norburn, Hardy and Beck, etc.

More former BMW's than it is possible to list.

but it could be from a Bavaria. Some of us who wanted a greater driving range installed the tank from the Bavaria model "back in the day". It was a perfect fit and bolted in on a Saturday afternoon. Then we raised the trunk floorboards about an inch to level everything out again.

E3 sedans, like Bavaria, 3.0S, etc have tanks that are shaped differently and will not fit 02s.

I have a tii tank for the tii engine in my 2000CS, which uses the same size tank as the 6 cylinder CSs.
