I was going through the paperwork that came with the 76 I just bought and noticed the name in the original service book. The name was somewhat unique (Fitzhugh), so I decided to google it. The first listing I found came up with a person living in Tennessee (the drivers licence number in the book noted Tenn even though the car was sold in NC). It turns out the person I found is a state senator in Tenn so there was a website and bio. The bio stated that this person graduated law school in 75 and then went into the Air Force, where he was stationed in NC and England. All of these facts seemed to fit so I sent him an e-mail asking him if he could have been the original owner.

I just got home from work and received an e-mail from him and though everyone would find it pretty interesting. So I'll paste it below.

"Yes, it was mine, bought new in '76 at Leith in Raleigh. It spent two

years with us in England while I was in the Air Force. Shipped it home

and sold it only because we needed kid room. . I believe I sold it to

a lady that took it to New Orleans.Sorry I sold it. What kind of shape

is it in? Is it for sale?

Brings back memories. First new car my wife and I owned.

Craig"

The New Orleans comment is perfect because I have a Louisiana registration from 1984 with a womans name on it. I'm almost more excited with what I've found out from the paperwork than actually having a running, drivable (almost) 02. So anyone in the 82nd district of Tennessee can be pround that their senator is fond of 02's.

Wow, that's cool. Here I thought Vintage car and I were the only two people in TN that even knew what an 02 was!

Thats cool man. Always fun to meet the person who originally had the car.

I was lucky to buy my car from the original owner. He used it as a wkend car and sometimes used it to go back and forth to the city (i live on long island). He was one of my dads customers, so when my dad saw the for sale sign in it he knew either he had to have it or i did (He had a '71 in college).

Anyway, enough rambling.
