Hello,

This is my first post here. I have been a proud member of the BMWCCA since I purchased my first BMW "88 325iX" on 01.18.04. I am thinking about purchasing a project car, although the up keep on my iX is a project in itself. What are the "key" differences between the 2002, 2002 Automatic, 2002 tii, and the 2002 tii Alpina? I have read that the 2002 tii Alpina was all aftermarket, is this true?

What are the going rates for a 2002, 2002 Automatic, 2002 tii, + 2002 tii Alpina? Kelley Blue Book does not go back any further than 1986. So I am at a loss on pricing. I found a Black 2002 about a little over a month ago sitting outside a service garage. I drove by again tonight and it's still sitting there. I would love to talk to the manager about it, but would like a better understanding for the going rates and what to look for before doing so.

I know you guys + gals are busy with asking and answering questions about fixing your cars, amongst lifes other daily drudgery. If someone could find the time to help a future 02 owner, I would greatly appreciate it!

Thanks,

Eric

Here is a buyers guide

http://rennsport.net/

That should give you a good intro.

The key differences between automatics and the rest is the automatic transmission. The alpinas are uber rare expensive. The tii's use mechanical fuel injection and are generally more spendy than regular 02s. Pre 74 cars with round tails are generally higher valued (But I like squaries .. big bumpers rule)

Key to buying an 02 AVOID THE RUST!!!

Those are the basics

best of luck!

Z summed it up well. However id just like to add one thing. If you are going to modify/race the car ie. twin carbs, turbo, etc, i would go for a carb'd 2002 as a base as Tii's are becoming rarer and you get the same out of the car anyway. If you want to drive the car, for the integrity and general "smile value" it has then buy a Tii.

Also, schwarz is quite a rare colour.
