Got her running today.

Put the breakerless Alison ignition in, loved the fact it was still in the box unused with a reciept from 1979.

Adjusted the valves, set the timing checked the firing order and walla, fired on the first turn of the key. After that adjusted the timing to 36deg at 2500 rpm with the vacume off the distro ( has a 70 engine ) is there a better way or is this OK. Motor sounds good, no knocks or rattles.

The resonater is wasted I might go get a glasspack and weld that in tomorrow.

Dumb ass PO didn't see the sunroof drains and just taped over the sunroof to keep if from leaking, cleaned the drains out and poured some water in and sure enough it came out just behind the front wheel.

I know I'm gonna love this car.

On to the questions.

The throttle linkage rubs on the clutch slave return spring, it doesn't look like there is any extra room to tweak it at all, it causes the throttle to not return to idle. I don't think you can flip the rod over cause then the bend would be wrong correct? Down there by the slave mine comes in from the drivers side and exits toward the passenger side. Anyone want to grab a flashlight and take a quick peek at thiers and let me know if that is correct.

I have the Haynes manual for it and it SUCKS, what's the book to have, and where is the best place to get it.

Gonna go through the brakes tomorrow and do some more cleaning, put the center console back, fix the exaust and I believe I'll have a driver.

WOOT Total cost so far, $ 524.76 ( had to buy a fan belt and a carb for the choke linkage )

First mod on tap, Some Hella H4s ( wish I din't give a away those Cibe's that I had stashed on the shelf for years). Any other Headlights worth a damn besides the Hellas?

I think you mean "voila", but I actually quite like your version!

Good luck, and no I don't have any answers, I'm just a smart arse this morning.

I think "walla" would be correct if the author was from the state of Washington, as in Walla Walla. Sorry. It's late here.

The Haynes manual is actually one of the better books out there for these cars. The problem I have with them nowadays is that after so many revisions, the photos and drawings are as clear as mud. (plus my eyes have aged 20 years)

The factory manual can be found for usually around $75. The CD version is supposed to be good as well. I just have a thing for paper.

There are other books out there for 02s. Clymer, Haynes, Chilton, McCartney, factory. It seems that each book has at least one gem of information that you won't find in the others.

return spring on the clutch slave cylinder. One reason is that these cars have an adjustable clutch pushrod, while the later cars don't. Try removing the spring; just make sure the clutch throwout bearing isn't touching the pressure plate when the clutch is released.

My '69 has this setup and the accelerator rod is nowhere near the slave cyl return spring, so maybe a PO installed something wrong. My car's in storage so I can't easily check it, but I think there's a piccture in the owners manual that shows this linkage.

Something else to check is the accelerator linkage return spring (on the firewall just below the horizontal rod that runs to the carb). If it's installed backwards, it'll rub on the heater return hose, causing the symptoms you describe. Simply reverse the hooked ends of the spring so it doesn't touch the hose.

BTW, sounds like you have a winner with your $500 wonder. I found a similar $250 CRX a a few years ago--great winter beater.

Cheers

manuals for my own use a while ago (mainly so I wouldn't trash the original manuals using 'em with greasy hands). Making duplex copies (two sided to two sided) of one manual took well over two hours and cost about $20 in copy fees.

Two things make the copying take so long:

a) The copy machine's auto-feed function didn't like the original manual's heavy coated paper much, and wouldn't accept more than about 10 pages per stack without pulling in more than one page at a time, and

B) There are several diagrams in each manual that are printed on fold-out pages - working out a way to print each diagram on multiple individual pages and still have it make sense is real time consuming.

$50 might be a little steep, but copying the manual is a real PITA - I sure don't want to have to do it again.........
