I am thinking about putting some box flares on my project. I was just wondering for the rear I know I have to trim the quarter panel up and the wheel well and weld a plate to cover the gap. I was just wondering for that plate should it extend anywhere outside of the rear 1/4 panel or just flush. What should I do about the the new big gaps that are now formed by the space between the flare and the 1/4 panel. Any help and picture you can provide would be greatly apperciated.

Snowflake nailed it with his 3rd pic. Cut the outer skin, notch the inner well and then bring it up and tack weld it in place. Without the flares looks very hot rod (cool in its own way).

Test fit the flares and use some cardboard to make templates for the sheetmetal filler. I also used some expanding foam spray insulation to fill in the space between the flare and the body.

between the flare and the steel. I noticed that that stuff is used alot on rally cars for mudflaps as well as various stone and rock guards. Not cheap but would last for sure. I'd definitly put something in there to keep it from getting tons of stuff stuck between the 2.
