Wasn't there a special run of 74 black Luxus 02's - What

does a luxus have in them? And are they valuable? I realize that none were imported to the US and some pop up in Europe now and then, but did they have special colors for the "L" models. And were there any tii luxus models that came from the factory? Thanks in advance

i've got a 74 lux although she's now rusting away quicker than you can imagine. to the best of my understanding the luxes (luxi?) had a "wood pack" this is basically wood cappings on the door cards and a wood fascia around the instrument panel. a rear armrest, velour upholstery and map pockets on the back of the seats and the on the front door cards. i've also been told that they came "standard" with an intermitent wipe although i'm not sure that this is correct. i expect i've missed something important but i'm sure others will know better. they dont especially seem to fetch a premium price here in the uk - maybe there were more here?

It's the only power roof '02 I've seen since '77, when I got the BMW bug.

all of the survivors are accounted for. I'll bet that car was an overseas delivery order (military or tourist). Apparently all sorts of geegaws and strange colors could be put on cars that were delivered in Europe that Max Hoffman woulnd't order for cars delivered here. I'd love to get the straight skinny on that someday...

That to keep sales up as the e21 was being readied 2 special 2002 models were offered. A "black variant" (version A) had black paintwork and light alloy rims. Also folding door pockets and chromed plated window winder. Black interior with L features (wood dashboard trim, imitation wood door trim, velour carpeting, wood gear shift knob, armrest for the driver with grip handle, pockets on the front doors, intermittant windshield wipers and some more features). There was also a B version in polaris that did not have the alloy wheels. 1,000 were sold from March 75 onwards both in Germany and abroad. Export models also were available with beige or grey interiors as well.

The Luxus package itself was available from April 74 onwards on most models.
