Moved to Iowa, and here they require front tags. I'm looking for pictures of other '02s with no front bumper with tags. My fender flares prohibit me from putting a front bumper on.

TIA!

hi, I've found that if you get those little suction cups you can push them through the holes in the plate and squish it onto the lower part of the front windsheild. Probably want to put it on the passenger side to avoid someone saying it's an obstruction.

Ziptied to the grille is always classy.

I had to do that on my '75 when the Aberdeen Proving Ground police started hassling me about my lack of front plate.

take an old bumper bracket, fasten a piece of flat aluminum (or plastic, take your pick) the same size as the plate to the brackeet, and mount your plate on the flat metal/plastic sheet.

Or, using the original bumper mounts, fabricate a light bar to hold fog or driving lights that spanned the space between the bumper bracket holes, then mount your plate on the light bar.

Didja find out how picky Iowa cops are about front plates?'

For REAR plates I use a Modern BMW OEM plate mount. Part Number: 51188238061

It's plastic with foam padding where the plate screws mount the plate to the frame. I have one on my 2002. No more metal on metal.

1. Mount it to your grille using 4 tie-wraps. 2. Using a pair of side cutters, cut tie-wraps and remove the plate. 3. Place 4 cut tie-wraps and 4 new ones along with the plate in an envelope or clear plastic bag and place in glove box.

When you get pulled over, explain that you enter your car in a show last weekend, removed the plate for display purposes and simply haven't gotten around to putting it back on.

"It's right here officer, (as you reach into the glove box) I can put it on right now"! If he/she's nice, you'll get away with it. If not, you're screwed!

Good luck!

I agree with the comment, "Tell the cop you haven't gotten around to it yet", or simply play stupid. Like, "I thought that was optional"! :-)

My son in Ohio has a gorgeous E36 M3...and he is yet to be stopped for not having an ugly as **** front license plate!

I hate dumb regulations...just like Sunoco having to pull "94" due to new fuel regulations requiring Ethanol!!! SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!

this worked for me on my e30 once. i was running a euro plate on the front and a personalized plate on the rear. a local cop stopped me and i told him i thought cars over 15 years old didnt need front plates. he informed me of the 30 year antique exception and told me to go home and put a front plate on. as i live in a small suburb of minneapolis and my e30 isnt exactly a low key car ive ran a front plate ever since. the cops all know my car here

But...without your front plate on, you are giving them just cause to stop you. Myself, I do enough on my own to give them just cause.

Get creative and maybe read the vehicle code for your state.

British cars of the same era used to have the tag numbers across the leading edge of the hood...er...bonnet. On my car with just the airdam on it, I had the plate mounted into the plastic.
