Hey guys,

Just curious as to what are the signs of a dead windshield washer pump? Mine barely makes any noise and sounds sad and bogged down. Was working great and then it started squirting less and less and now nothing at all. Anything to look after when and if I do replace it? Any suggestions or tips?

Cheers.

so long as the motor isn't rusted into nothingness...the small screws hold the pump to the motor; remove them, then lubricate both ends of the motor's armature (pop a little cap off the exposed end). Hook up to +12v and see if you can get the motor working properly--you might have to help it get started...once it's going let it run for a couple of minutes to spread the oil around, the reassemble with a little grease in the drive end of the motor (the part that's hidden when the pump part is reattached). Also make sure the little blade that's attached to the pump shaft hasn't rusted through. I replaced my rusted one with a little piece of stainless steel windshield wiper blade backing.

If you can find an old Audi Fox or VW Rabbit in a local yard, their OEM pumps were identical to the 2002's...

The pumps are relatively easy to rebuild remove diassemble the pump from the motor and clean impeller then spin, lube, and reassemble. Also us a thin piece of wire to ream out the spray nozels to clear any blockage.

Check tubes from the pump to the nozels and then test for clear flow.

if the pump motor is working then that should do it.

....if you run fast enough you don't need

no stinkin washer pump.

your car should'nt be out in rain any more,

and rainX eliminates the need for wipers also.

remove the pump and cut one coil off the front springs to re-adjust

And when you live near the water having a windshield washer for the bugs is helpful.. and the water dust spots. Mine gets driven through the rain....

Mine died too... I replaced it with a $15.00 Canadian Tire generic pump. Required minimal effort to install... Works like a charm!

Definitely use the Rain-X washer fluid... It's the best!

When I took apart and cleaned my washer pump, I had difficulty getting it to run after I put it all back together. I took it apart again, tested the motor, and it worked. I found out that I had tightened the four screws too much, and the motor couldn't move. Just something to consider if your motor works but the pump won't work when assembled.
