OLD THREAD!!!  I am having trouble with my arms... one hits the apron and will not let the hood close.

The arms point forward with lots of tension... what am I doing wrong?  I am in the process of aligning the hood.

Ha!  That butt was being forked... I have to censor at the house as I have a 16 & 17 YEAR OLD.... Dont google "I like big butts" with safe search off... cause the song never shows up...

anyway.... reversed the torsion and it is sucking it down... I have the spring arms pointing back... I have to reverse the torsion bar again... :)

something is not right as the support bars are going to rub on the close.  the pics above are before i reversed the bar...note: the hood is on but nowhere near aligned

Still no joy....with the arms pointed forward, the arm is hitting the apron on close. With the arms pointed back, it wants to shut the hood.

Seems like a neutral position would be best. Neutral meaning the main arm is neither pointing forward or backward.

Bottom line is that there is too much tension on the arm forcing it forward or down to the apron.

I found Dubois article in the construction area along with pictures from bill Williams.

Something ain't right but I can't figure it out

Michael there is only one way the torsion bar goes on. In your picture, The "arms" are in the correct position, they do not fold to the nose, but the torsion bar can be right to left as you have experienced you would need to pass the lower portion of the "arm" on the other side of the stop from the upper "arm" in order for them to point" backward" toward the wind screen. Or, you have the torsion bar mounted upside down on the hood. can you please take a photo of your mount at the hood. I did this once, many years ago and it took me some time to sort out the spring load with the hood off with the torsion bar mounted. I told myself to never take the torsion bar off again. Thanks for reminding me :)

Has anyone pulled a torsion bar apart?  Is there a notch or any other adjustment?  Mine looks just like Bills but it is pulling down hard on the apron

Were you able to get this sorted out yet Austin?  In general it looks like you have it in right, with the bar itself 'up' relative to the bolts on the inside of the hood and the arms wanting to spring 'forward,' aka needing to work against the spring to pull them back towards the rear of the car, correct?  Only two other things I can think of to check. First make sure you play with the slotted bolt point where the arms attache to the fenders; that can actually move things around a good bit.  Second thing is, on one of my cars, the end caps (which bolt to the inside of the hood) had worn and weren't holding the end of the torsion rods in place, so I didn't have any 'spring' and the hood wouldn't stay up.  I was successful in swapping them, so as to give the business end of the torsion rods a nice fresh spot to gain purchase.  Not sure how something like this would lead to your problem, but might be worth looking at if you still haven't sorted it out and need to take the rod off again. HTH!
