well I don't think you will accomplish anything by just welding in a "medal" between the two rear strut towers. now if you get some steel and triangulate between the towers and the floor...

but most agree that rear strut braces make great battery holders but don't really do anything to improve handling in an 02

Personnally I wouldn't weld to the shock tower, unless you're very good. Too much risk of causing more weakness than building strength. On my Touring, where a rear brace was absolutely necessary, I only welded to the sides of the boot and simply used the shock to tie it into the strut tower.

But if all you want is something to hold the battery, use a properly vented marine box, bolted to the floor. Works well, cheaper and leaves more room for all those spare parts we all carry around (water pump, fuel pump, thermostat, hoses, belt, rotor/cap, plugs, wire, duct tape, assorted tools, a scissors jack and and big enough piece of plywood to put under it)

...and another for the trunk (store bought and che$ep)

I can weld and fabricate - but this battery mount/brace is so nice and chee$ep that why spend all the time and energy ?

im the original topic poster.. i got the steel bar for free at ace hardware, the guy didnt want to go out in the rain and cut me a piece so he just gave me the display piece for free. i cut it and curved the ends with a file and wedged it in with a hammer. im gonna weld it in later but for now it stays even if i try and rip it out with my hands

would it be possible to buy the black mount things on top of the struts in this picture. because if i had these i could make my own front brace also.

Do you have more pictures of this car? I'm curious about the rest. Looks very nice.
