I figured that with this rain, I should probably fix the wipers.

I tested the wires and I was getting power, so I figured it was the wiper motor. So I replaced it with one in stock. Low and behold it works.

So I put the "new" wiper motor in but did not connect the "crank rod" to the splined wiper motor shaft. I turned on the power and the motor worked on both speeds. I powered it off and let it park.

Then I set the wipers to their "park" position and connected the crank rod and tightened down the 10mm nut.

I turned on the wipers and was surprised to see them crunch into the lower portion of the windshield. Indeed, my park position was in the "middle" of the wipe arc.

So I repositioned them.

The problem is, for them to work normally, they park in the middle of my windshield.

What did I do wrong?

Help is appreciated. It's supposed to rain all week! :(

Mine did the same thing after lubing up the gears. I just undid the 10mm nut, moved the wiper arms to their correct park posi and redid the nut. I also lifted the arms off the windshield before I tested them again - all ok. Its been fine for 10 months. Beaner7102

I just redid mine last weekend. After it was all assembled I had the same thing happen. The fix for me was the bracket that bolts to the wiper motor itself (from the wiper assembly). The bracket needs to be pointing horizontal to the drivers side (pointing to the right) when the wipers are parked. You can change the wipers all you want, but if this bracket is not pointed E-W, extended to the drivers side, it will crunch down into the bottom of the windshield every time. The reason is that the bracket goes round and round on top the motor. When it is pointed to the right, it has completed the circle. That's where the wipers should be parked, when it completes the circle on the right side (the driver's side).

does that make any sense?

It could also be the switch. I had the same issue with another 02 that I once owned and after replacing the switch, the wipers parked in the proper spot.
