AC Compressor bracket removal

I was trying to change the exhaust manifold and stumbled on a bracket for the AC. I had no plans to remove the AC compressor. Is there a way around it ?

I don't recall having to remove it to pull the exhaust manifold off - but the AC bracket DOES share a bolt with the water pump. You'll need to identify it once removed - and source one slightlyshorter (don't just pack the thing with flat washers - that's disgusting). If you leave the bolt out - the pump will undoubtedly leak (ask me how I learned about the "shared bolt"....ugh! how embarassing!)

lite ' 02s w/ tii exh. manifolds and, although all three have A/C, I never had to touch the compressor bracket in the process.

My 02 no longer has AC, but the compressor, and all associated items was never removed. Last year I had to change all of my exhaust manifold studs due to heavy leaking and the bracket was really in the way. The nut was rusted on the bolt, and there wasn't enough thread to double nut it out. I ended up using my Dremel to shear off that tab of the compressor bracket...it took days.....and the compressor is still on the car....

get it out of there! that's like 100lbs of crap under your hood that needs to go!

I only have E21 experience with removing the AC bracket but there are one or two shared bolts as well as one bolt that on my E21M10 bracket went through to an oil passage. Not sure if some of the 02 blocks are different or if I'm imagining that but watch out if thats the case
