Anyone ever have a new Tii water pump go bad after 1000 miles?

I did a motor swap 1-1/2 months ago & installed a brand new water pump at that time. Car was running great until today when the motor started running hot and the waterpump developed a "bearing" squeal.

Luckily enough, I managed to get the car home without overheating.

I checked the belt and it wasn't too tight but I can see coolant on the water pump. I guess installing another water pump is next weekend's project...

On a positive note, I installed a set of Scheels this weekend and I like them better than my Recaros.

It was an aftermarket water pump - gotta check my paperwork to determine which brand it was.

Other than Lasso, any other brands I should stay away from?

Maybe Ill go see the local dealer tomorrow - anyone know what an OEM Tii water pump goes for?

TIA

Thanks for the prices - quite a wide spread between OE & aftermarket.

Irvine BMW quoted me $270 (!) for an OE pump.

Mesa Performance quoted me $60 for an aftermarket pump.

Better head over to Mesa & determine what brand of pump they carry.

$270 is a nasty expensive markup. Wow. Try Pacific BMW, they give a CCA discount and their mail order is pretty big from what I hear.

I just put one of those cheaper pumps on this tii engine i've been working on. Now i'm paranoid!!!

I'm due a used original tii water pump in the mail here any day (needed the pully but got both parts). If it looks in good shape maybe I'll use that and keep the shiney new (but potentially crappy) one as a spare

I have to admit, when the parts guy at Irvine BMW quoted me the $270 price, he seemed as geniunely shocked as I was.
