Getting no heat, and temp guage stuck in the blue, so I am putting in a new thermostst tadya. Easy enough, however...

Right above the thermostat, and right below the flexible air duct leading to the air cleaner, there is a hose that is rubber leading from the carb, and aluminum leading from under the head (it looks like that's where it goes). The rubber and aluminum hoses meet in the middle at an aluminum fitting.

Question is...can I move those in order to get easier access to the thermostat? are they pressurized? Is it for the choke?

I added a pic, i hope it works...

it probably just has coolant in it. try loosening that clamp and if anything comes out that seems pressurized just dont mess with it. and get a mechanic or somene to not screw it up.

That is the EGR pipe. Exhaust gas recirculation. Don't mess with it or you will have a nasty exhaust leakwhen that thin metal pipe breaks off. Remove the air cleaner flex hose and take a LONG screwdriver and loosen or remove the clamp holding the short hose between thermostat and water pump and unscrew the clamp attaching the upper thermostat L hose at the head. Then you can pull the thermostat with hoses attached away from the front of the engine to work on easier.

I have no idea what that Whosamajigger is called but it's part of the airpump. Mine was torn off when I bought the car BUT... What they used to do is pump air into the exhaust manifold to burn off the uncombusted stuff. That pipe goes to 4 air injectors (just like fuel injectors) that litterally inject fresh air into each exhaust port just past the valve. You can remove it, there's just air in there but DON'T BREAK IT or you're screwed!!! I recently did an engine swap so while I had the exhaust manifold off the car I broke off the metal part and welded it up with a 3/8" bolt head. Just stuck it in there, welded & grind away.

The circular thing is a one way valve to prevent hot exhaust gasses from going into your carburetor. Just be careful but you can take any & all of that apart and it should go back together. Seriously though it's fragile so be careful to not brake it or you'll have a flame thrower pointing at the snorkle hole next to the radiator.
