I would stay with a wired unit.

I think the wireless units will get too much interference from the ingnition system, and having to replace batteries in both the computer AND the sender could get pricey. For a car odo/speedo system go with a cheapy unit that was a long cable for the sender, or at least a cable that you can extend to make it all the way from the front wheel to the cabin.

I mounted one on my car for the Melee. I siliconed a rare earth magnet to the wheel and mounted the sender to the strut using a hose clamp. Two days prior to the drive, it was working fine. No problem displaying 80mph. OF COUSE, the day of the drive, the damn thing decides to quit! I had enough time to check that the magnet had decided to leave. I found it a few days later hugging the strut, even after doing all those dirt sections!

The pocket GPS helped on the Melee when the route directions showed a cross intersection, while it was actually an offset cross. Had we not checked that, we would have driven down the wrong road for several miles. We also wouldn't had met the really nice Chaterham owner that turned around to make sure we were OK and thought we were crazy for trying Fish Rock Road.

Thanks for the reminder to get it running again. My speedo is starting to act real flakey as of late. Reads about 10-12 mph high. (verified using the HUGE digital speedo display on a Honda Civic that I was passing at 75mph.)

Check out "Alfa Systems" or "Alfa Rally Computers"....Mike Friedman is my cousin, and has been rallying and designing serious purpose built rally computers for years. The photo in their ads (Grassroots M'Sport, etc) is actually of his old Datsun 510 airborne - his head hitting the ceiling! *laughs!*

try e mailing him at: Mike@rally.cc or try Google if no workie.

HTH!

I really like the Alfa unit. ~almost ~ bought one last fall.

Another that I have been drooling over was the Retrotrip unit.

Alas, lacking a few spare hundred dollars(damn vet bills for the cat), a spare bike CPU from my stable is all I can afford at the time.
