Pulled the valve cover off of my parts car today inorder to practice valve adjustment before I attempted the procedure on my "good 02". I noticed the rockers look like they have a bite taken out of them. Is this normal? Or a modification?

Yeah, some of the early rockers and maybe still some of the current rocker arms are like that.

Yeah, all mine are like that, including a couple new ones I bought.

What can be bad though is if the rockers feel a little loose or wobbly. Wiggle them back and forth longitudinally and see if you can find any play in them. Mine were really bad, and it was due to the rocker shafts being worn down really bad and the rockers themselves being worn on the inside. It made it impossible to adjust the valves right, and it tapped loud. I replaced my rocker shafts and three rockers that had too much play.
