Has the black factory coating always been the BMW standard? I have a perfect, unused trunk lid in grey. Looks as though it has never been painted or on a car. -J

one of my oem quarters and my trunklid both came in flat grey. the rest of my panels are a satin black. all oem

My bonnet came in grey only becasue they damaged it in transit :-(

Everything else came in black.

came in a flat grey primer--probably the same stuff they used at the factory under the original paint...don't know when they switched to black but it was at least 18 or so years ago--new fenders I installed in the late 80s were a semi flat black that had to be scuffed before painting...

that makes sense, the flat grey panels (old stuff) needed far less work than the satin black panels.
