now i'm beginning to regret removing my passenger seat / sheet metal mounts / etc in order to install the e30 sport seats

it's becoming a major PITA

but what i'm wondering is, since i should be looking into repairing the floor pans anyway, whether or not i should just cut out those floor humps altogether. it would make it a whoooollle lot easier to mount the seat(s) after doing that, i'm thinking.

also, if i did do that, i think i would end up modifying the transmission tunnel metal too

I havent done it personally, but it could be done fairly easily as long as you're in there.

THe main purpose of those was to provide some additional side impact protection from what I can gather, as they dont really provide clearance for anything. You'd want to take that into account at least-and make sure you weld in some good thick (18-gauge at least) and maybe put some strengthening ribs in it .

yeah i was discussing it with my brother while it was on the rack and we were taking a look at it all

looks like it can be done, but some support tubing will have to be installed underneat where the hump is
