So this afternoon after doing many hours of homework it was time for a break. Me and the old man (Bill) decided to take the 02 out for a drive and where better to go in an 02 than some twisties! We headed to a spot along the Yarra River called Yarra Bend and had a sesion of spirited driving up and down a few times during which we saw a Porsche 911 (not sure of year) and a couple of e39's. Unfortunately the Porsche had to turn off soon after we saw it and then we got stuck behind a slow car :-(

We then stopped at one of the parks along the river and took a few shots of the car (see below) and then headed home. On the way back a current model Liberty was in front and didnt let us down by going slow. Though he had more than enough body roll he was moving nicely and made it enjoyable for us. Hope you enjoy the pics!

'72 Tii to me, but rather a '71 or earlier 1600. The car in your CarDomain shot appears to be the '72. Which which is which? Regardless, a small bumper/guardless/reflectorless '02 takes the '02 cake.

haha, its got an early style rear bumper on it! Actually just put it back on after having the longer style on it which was scratching the paint as the holes on the side had been deleted by the previous owner as well as the lower trim. The shorty rear bar that was put on after the restoration got pretty well F'd in the A when it got rear ended and as they shorty rear bars are hard to find and expensive down here i had to wait a while to find a suitable one... It is a 72tii (but currently with twin carbs - but hopefully ITB's in the future)

Looking good Tommy! When home work is getting you down - this sounds like a great stress relief!

When I am back to my best, I will get along and take some nice pics for you of whitey on the move... nice shirt - great taste!

We dont have reflectors at all either! No model ever got them! New bumper looks sweet. I told you I was deleting my lower trim too didnt I??

BTW - you have to watch your P's & Q's on the Yarra Bend - it has police on there quite often - worth it to have a reccy run before you go too wild down there. I'm sure Bill was sensible. :-)

Lol, when we were taking photos a cop pulled into the carpark and drove past slowly...heart in the mouth action right there...I saw on you blog thing it said you were deleting the trim. Personally i recon it looks better deleted but others like it on. Look around for a shorty rear bumper...it will really complement the deleted trim well. Hope to see you soon mate!

Yeah, police presence is always pretty strong on there... one of the guys on ECCA just got done for 130 there - thats kph - the cop dropped it so he didnt lose his license. Still got a nice fine though!

If I get a new rear bumper, then I will have to fill the front mount holes as well. Im not sure I want to go trimless just yet. I will see how I addapt to it and most likely affix it with double sided tape down the track.

We will really have to get the 2002 side of the BMW club more fired up with a few drives. I think a nice trip down the Great Ocean Road might get a few of them out and about... It would make for a nice spectacle.

haha, i think we got up to 100 tops...too many cars :-(

Yeh, true about the timeless thing but (personal opinion) it looks so much better! Haha, would be good to see the 02 side of the club get out there. I havent really spoken to many there but Doug is a top bloke and the dude with the inka squarie with Mahles seemed young at heart. The more the better i say. Everyone ive spoken to about it is keen because nothing like it has really been done before! ...its inaugural (nearly finished school and i still cant spell :-S)

The bloke with the Inka is Graeme - he also has another car that he is building up also... there is enough of us out there with 2002s to get 5 or 6 to a run and really get the others enthused.

If you get your whitey, mine (I think I might call it silvery:-P), Shaun's, there is 3 straight away... thats well on its way to being a good day :-)

When we send the pics to the BMW club to get it in their magazine, it will grow! "Build it and they will come"

There were 16 different '02s through out the day at the Show & Shine... (the most well represented model at the whole show!)

Not to mention, the CarDomain shot has an extra gas cap (on LH side!)

That image Tom uses as his signature is an image that Tom provided to a friend that then went and reversed the shot for the the signature design.

The car is definitely a 72Tii - it is currently missing the rear trim between the lights and the 2002 Tii badge... The shorter bumper has been added in the past two weeks after taking a long tim to find a replacement after the accident - it is replacing the bigger bumper you see in the majority of the pics on the cardomain site.

This car is one of the nicest examples around.

Glad you liked the shirt.

I really like the license plates there in Australia.

Koalas and kangaroos are all being exploited to show to the American tourists :-P

This area, although it loks very 'country' is only about 5km from the CBD of Melbourne - it is totally built up in the area, with a small strip of 'wilderness' along a river that runs through the heart of Melbourne... it is a very rare sight to see any animals that close to the city.

If you havent had a look, check out Toms cardomain page - he has some nice shots there. When my car is back driving, we are going to have a run where I will take some nice shots of the cars.

This car of Tom & Bills is a dry day car only - it never goes out when there is rain forcast! It is a sensational little beast.
