Hi all,

I have seen many people do what I have been wanting to do for a while, move their bumper closer to the car. How would I acheive this? I have noticed oval brackets that hold them to the car. Can I get brackets from a different year that will fit?

Below there is a link to my current rear bumper setup.

Earlier brackets from a 68-71 car (both front and rear) will allow the bumpers to sit closer to the bodywork. You might have to make new holes for the bolts that affix the bumper corners to the body, though.

I bet there are enough of us '73 owners out there who would love to bring their bumpers in but really don't want to start cutting holes in the front panel. How about some entrepreneurial handy metal worker makes a pattern and starts making brackets that have the same mounting holes and insert location as a '73, just a shorter "reach?" Come on, somebody out there has to have the skill... Any volunteers?

John,

I have the brackets you need to bring your rear bumper in closer (you'll still need to move the holes in the quarters, I believe) and would be willing to trade for your oblong brackets. Email me if you're interested.
