Does anyone know the purpose of those round coffee canned size plugs in the floor. Do they have something to do with the manufactuing process? One of my first cars had those in it as well. I found out about them when I hit a giant puddle. The carpet on the drivers side was like a floor mat. The force of the water hitting the bottom of the car dislodged the plug. The water gushed in all over me and the windshield. It was like sitting on a fire hydrant.

They were drain plugs for the car's initial plunge into body primer. Grind, sand and POR-15 the area and seal them with silicone, or weld them into place and then POR-15.

those plugs--poor sealer used that year, from what I've been told. If you have a '76, make a careful inspection from under the car, and if you find rust, chisel out the tarpaper inside and thoroughly repair/rustproof/seal those plugs, or you'll have a Flintstonemobile in a few years...

ToddK... I am a Todd K as well :-)

I have always wondered as such too... made little or no sense to me.

I will have a look at mine to make sure there is no funny business going on in there this week.

Todd K in Oz.
