If you're a/c is in working condition you will need the additional fan..otherwise the car will overheat. If your a/c is inoperable or if you plan to remove it, then you don't need that fan...so long as the red engine driven fan is in place.

The fan is there primarily to keep air flow over the A/C condensor during low speed operations with the A/C operating. This fan is even more important for acceptable cabin cooling if the original R12 refrigerant has been changed over to R134a.

Depending on where you live, I dunno that I'd necessary agree with the lack of need for a pusher fan on non-a/c cars. My '69 has a 3 row radiator core and cooled fine in warm weather (80+) with just the engine driven fan as long as traffic was moving at 15-20 mph or more. In stop & go traffic or idling, however, the temp gauge would climb toward the red much too quickly for comfort.

A couple of years ago, I added an E21 a/c pusher fan and thermo switch - now the fan kicks on when the coolant temp gets up around 205 degrees and goes off at about 190, and the temp gauge never goes past the half-way point.
