Hello all....

I didn't get interested in 2002's until about 1999 or so. That was after, I moved to the West Coast.

However, from 1987-1991 I resided in the Durham/Chapel Hill NC area. I had NO idea that Miller & Norburn even existed. I might have gotten interested in these great little cars even earlier if I had stumbled upon their shop.

I just bought some M&N camber plates on Ebay and it got me thinking about the company.

Can anyone tell me what year they ceased operation? Also, does anyone out there in the great collective 2002 mind, remember where the company was located? If I dig deeply into my memory.......I think I might recall a shop somewhere on the east side of town between Duke's east campus & downtown Durham. Perhaps, near the Brightleaf shopping area?

in fact I remember a very fast ride on NC 751 thru the Duke Forest with Russ driving a Lotus Elan...this was in 1965/66, long before 2002s and his interest in BMWs...

Their shop, I think is now under one of the downtown freeways, but I still have a couple of their catalogs from the mid-70s with the address if you really want to know. I do know they were still operating in the late 70s/early 80s, as we would stop by their shop driving my '69 (and then the 73, which has air) 2002 from Dayton to the Outer Banks every summer. Would usually buy something (not speed equipment, unfortunately--no $$) while I was there. Russ still remembered me from college and the local sports car club.

2308 E. Pettigrew St., Durham NC. 27703. I have an invoice from late 1990 when they installed a set of Alpina wheels on my 1st E30 M3. I moved to London shortly thereafter and was not back in the area for a few yrs. and they had closed.

More former BMW's than it is possible to list.

my dad used to take his '83 320i there back in the 80's. that fun car ran like a Bavarian watch, was maintained immaculately, and years later, led to my interest in 02's.

A few years ago I inquired on the old FAQ board and I found out that one of the mechanics from there works at a shop in Raleigh. . .

They were located in a part of town, I didn't frequent. Although, I did drive by it quite often heading South down the Durham Freeway to my chemist jobs I had in the Research Triangle Park. I was a student and very young professional then....so, I was hanging out in the colleg'ey type places.

It looks as though the former M&N facility is now a large British Car repair/sales outfit called "Flying Circus".

Sounds like everyone has really good memories of M&N......which is very cool.

Took a couple of days off while on a business trip to Cherryville, NC and went to both M & N and to Korman. I think I still have some pics in of that trip laying around.

I was shown around both shops. Great hospitality.

I remember a red '02 that Korman was building for some South American drug lord. Money was no object.

Asked Ray about that car at 020202 and he indicated that it was stolen very shortly after he delivered it (via air freight!).

Funny thing about BMW's in South America. My favorite car of all time, a Baur top 323i (the only Inka one) which I brought in from Italy with 30km's was stolen from the Norfolk Va. airport parking lot in 1986 (the battery in my daily driver Saab was dead) and ended up in Brazil. I had a local enthusiast try to buy it back for me but no luck. Still miss that car.

I had the pleasure of knowing Preston Miller from the IMSA days. I have had more than a few beers with him. He went on to be director of Ford racing with NASCAR. I think that he is involved with a "skunk works" firm for Ford. G
