since I got my car back my muffler has been bouncing a bit, I noticed. Another 02 guy ( didnt know until yesterday) told me that a piece that looks like a C that clips from under the car...onto a wide soft plastic piece that looks like a figure 8.

Since I dont remember what this looks like, this is my best description of what he told me.

How can I jerry rig this until I get this piece? mufflers get hot (I learned last night) I dont want the muffler to loosen and fall off. and what is this piece called?

The part is called a muffler hanger. You can find one here.

In the meantime, you can tie it to those hanging c-clips (there are two of them) with something that won't melt, although I can't recommend any specific material. Maybe someone else on the board can. I once used a $4 K-Mart men's belt, which I assume was made out of cardboard coated in vinyl, to hold up my exhaust for 3 days. YMMV.

You'll also need item #12, BASE, in the picture to complete the proper install.

Without the BASE, the metal hook on the muffler will cut through the RUBBER RING (figure 8).

Your car has a metal hanger built into/welded to the underside.

The muffler has a "hook" welded to it.

The #12 BASE clips to the muffler hook, keeping the rubber ring from being cut.

I rigged mine up with a coat hanger for a while, and then switched to safety wire. I ended up just buying the whole installation kit from bavauto. They got it there pretty quick, and it left me with some spare parts just in case something else broke.
