BImmerPartsCo sells a complete center console for $177 or so. What does it come with? Is it just the sides? Does it include the ash tray bracket? Cover plate where the hazard switch mounts? Ash tray? Shift surround? Bottom cover board?

How about the one from 2002AD for about $225?

Karl,

Looks like $289.00 now from Bimmer Parts Co. and an additional $58.00 for the shift surround. Did you try Sherman Martinez? has to be someone that has a nice used complete unit for you; almost $350.00 for a new one is pretty steep but it depends what you're willing to pay I guess.

Why don't you call them up and ask? When I got mine a couple years ago from Maximillian I know it had the sides and the bottom board, but I don't remember anymore if it had the plastic piece along the top that holds the ashtray and the hazard switch. Definitely nothing else beyond that included.

Sir,

Your inquiry brought to light that our web service had not updated the price. It is that simple. Nothing malicious about it.

Sincerely,

Max

Where did you see center consoles for sale on bimmerparts website? I didnt see it. Its also on my list of to dos and La Jolla only has a few parts, he said they've been picked over

once bimmer parts was bought out by max all parts prices were multiplied many times to where they are now. Im sure you can find a "looks new" excellent condition center console for a lot cheaper than that. Just post a WTB.

P.S my dad was lucky when he bought a new top dash for his 72tii, it was before max took over and it was half the price, maybe even less than that. then again they do have parts you cant get anywhere else

Sometimes you're flush and sometimes you're bust, and when you're up, it's never as good as it seems, and when you're down, you never think you'll be up again, but life goes on

I say if they dont give you the price when you asked the question you order from somewhere else. Its like that commercial when the guy is in the diner and the "special" price on the bilboard outside incrementally goes from like 7.99 to 30 bucks and he starts eating really fast....

if you were the last person to see that price you should get it at that. Kind of a bonus for pointing it out...

Benetton,

Contrary to common belief I am not becoming wealthy selling parts and not trying to gouge on prices. The reason the prices when up is because the former management of Bimmer Parts had a price file from BMW that was over 2 years old !! Hence he was not making any money and in fact over 120k in debt. All I did was load in current BMW pricing.

New prices reflect

1) BMW retooling costs to remanufacture

2) materials cost have changed since late 70s

3) euro exchange rate rise of over 40%

4) BMW's firm belief that reproduction of certain parts should be in Germany which is home to the highest labor rates in the world.

Sincerely,

Max

So, you - like Bimmer Parts - were using outdated prices? Seems like a lesson should have been learned there. This is an interesting circumstance - but I don't think the price change is going to put you 120K in debt.
