The very front-most manifold stud hole is stripped (from the exhaust valve job last year I guess) and I'd resolve it this weekend if I can tap it and helicoil it in the car. Anyone had success with this?

If not, I'll keep putting it off for warmer weather but I really need to clean that shit up. sounds like a nice air-cooled VW.

I think the very front one goes right into the front head bolt passage wich is also an oil passage so my guess would be no. You can do it though with the head off, and if you've taken the head off before you should be able to tackle it in about two hours.

Risky, but doable if you use vaseline and pipe cleaners.

Better to take the head off. Hey! Also check the condition

of the spark plug holes as well. They have a tendency to

get stripped by ham fisted mechanic/helper types.

And, why not replace

all the studs with the torx head type found on Saturn cars?

Lock tite red in place. And put a combo heat shield exhaust

gasket too. Paint the metal edge part of the heat shield red -

this has been documented to add 5-8hp on the m10 and 8-12hp

on the m30 (manuals only, DOh!)
