box out of the $500 '76 I bought a year ago. . . The car came with an unused set Zender turbo flares and front air dam. The PO also put in a close ratio steering box. Not painted red, but the serial # ends in 177 and it is less than 3 turns lock to lock.

Best news is that I can't feel any notches in the box.

That certainly made my evening!!!

Cheers!

nice one! I thought I had hit the jackpot when I cleaned out the cigarette tray and found a spanish gold dubloon. but on closer inspection-- i found the tiny "copy" inprinted in it. dang! I thought I had pirate treasure hidden in my 02!

what is that, all that glitters is not gold, but sometimes what is not gold, glitters? I think you got the better deal!

I can share the feeling. 15 years ago when I was stripping down a '72 tii that I bought for parts, I decided to save the red painted steering box...didn't know what it was at the time and honestly thought someone carelessly oversprayed it red when repainting the car. I threw it in a box a parts where it stood for about 13 years until I stumbled accross the faq here and finally was told of the gem I truly had! I'm still amazed I never sold it in all those years...fortunetly I stuffed the box in an out of the way spot and forgot all about it. Never know what you'll find in these cars!

a set of old key blanks and someone's old military dog tag. i got the dog tag hanging on my review view as a good luck charm. i hope one day i can track down the owner. anyone here have a '74 turkis tii 2780168 that was in the norfolk, VA area?

also, just this past weekend in the same car i found an earring my wife lost over a year ago. i was pulling the carpet and seats and found it, she was quite happy as it was one of her favorites and she had saved the other one in hopes that i'd find the lost one.

Peter Egan did a story on this years ago. Major finds were dog hair covers penies, and pink combs.

An old girlfriend and I went to test drive a 2 door Fiat 128 and found a big old roach in the ashtray.

I guess my treasure was that I found my 2002 I had sold due to financial issues partial due to the 2002, on ebay 5 years later and was in a position to re-buy my treasue back. It won't leave the stable again!

I only found 2 items in my 68 2002.

#1 a 1969 penny under the rear floor mat stuck to the floorboard. Dark on one side--brand new, shiny copper on the side facing down. I think it was "tails up" - so I put it back where it has been for about 35 years I'm sure.

#2 after realizing the bottom screw was missing from the driver side rear window latch, I found a correct, yet dingy replacement and installed it. Right after I did this--I thought about it some then pulled the rear seat where I found it hidden down in a crevice--looking as good as new.

Not as interesting as an old bag of weed, but that's all I've found so far!
