I went to Pepboys and got some black carpet and decided to carpet the trunk. I built a rear panel and a speaker box as well to help with the fuel vapors I was drawing in through the speaker holes. The project took a couple days and tunred out nice for a DIY job. I couldn't however get the carpet on the shock towers...I tried different cuts, but I'm not a professional upholstery guy so I just painted them.

I got one 6x9 roll and a 3x6 roll. The 6x9 did the whole trunk and the 3x6 did the underside of the trunk lid. 6x9 from pepboys was $25 and the 3x6 was $15. One can of Permetex Headliner and Carpet Adhesive $7. Oh and a bottle of Aleve for my back $5.

And here is a pic of the whole car as requested

Well for Instructions:

I removed the vinyl from the the panels covering the gas tank and the spare tire. layed them out on the carpet and cut about an 1 1/2" excess around the board to fold the carpet over. I sprayed the adhesive on the board and on the carpet then put the carpet to the board and stretched it around the back of the board. I finished the boards off with a staple gun. Those went really quick. I used a piece of scrap plywood I had that was the same thickness as the trunk boards that covered the gas tank and the spare tire for the rear panel and for the small section that is behind the gas tank and spare tire panels. The most difficult portion of the entire install was the rear panel installation. I didn't wrap the carpet around this panel I just cut it to fit since there were so many angles. I had to also cut that plywood sheet in half to get it to slide into place, then drilled a couple of small screws into it to secure it. Use cardboard for the rear panel as a template it makes a difficult job easier. I wish I would have taken photos as I was going along. I hope this isn't to confusing for those DIY'ers It actually is a fairly simple project, mainly you are tracing boards and cutting about an 1 1/2 excess to pull over the board. Make sure to cover the carpet with plastic so you don't get to much debris and stray glue on the carpet. Stray glue just turns to a sticky mess if you try to clean it up. I had a few spots, and found that a light dusting of flat black trim paint covers up those spots nicely on this black carpet. :) Why clean the carpet when you can just spray paint it right!

What'd you use?

just a note....if you'll check at home depot or lowes, maybe even wal-mart....they sell 6'x9' & 9'x12' area carpets in many colors and styles including nylon loop like the original carpeting....it's heavier and more durable than the lightweight stuff you buy at auto stores...

i just bought a red & beige, 6'x9', nylon loop at home depot for $19.00 ea
