My internal heater fan is inop. I bought the car this way so I have no idea what is wrong. The switch moves, but no fan at any speed. Any suggestions on where to start? And is there any common problems with these? Any suggestion would be helpfull

Thanks,

FUSE FIRST

reach into the fan from the engine room

with a ling thin screw-driver

and see if the fan spins freely

at the same time with a light, inspect the 2 wires that connect to the top of the fan - sometimes it"s just oxidation of the 2 spade connectors - wiggle them , remove and plug on a few times and try again

look under the dash at the fan switsh / lever

If you need a new fan motor, let me know, I have some extras. They're hard to come by and expensive, so let me know.

Basically, you have a few different causes. If you can get power to the leads and the fan runs, you know the fan is OK and the problem is external, such as a fuse or maybe even the switch or relay. The problem is that getting to the fan and everything is a pain in the arse!

If your heater core is working and the wires from the heater lever to the water valve going to your core are working - you can still get heat by opening your vents and turning on the heat levers. You can even go under the hood and turn on the heater valve. If your heater core isn't working then getting the fan to operate isn't going to help. I'm speaking strickly from an old roundie experiance. If you need to do the heater box rebuild there is a great write up with photos. I'm no expert wrench but I did it and it came out great. Had to replace the core on mine. It's like a little radiator and they get buggered up.

My fan was not working, I pulled the heater box (i need to get the core flushed by the rad shop) checked out the fan, gave it a spin it seamed fine. I hooked it up to a battery and it span slowly. Lubbed up the bushes and it span at full speed. Its been working fine since (10 months) I would give it some lube before spending $$$$$$ on a new one. Beaner7102
