My old HTK CD lists both of the above

Which one?

later BMWs used a similar switch with different (finer, I think) threads. So make sure you get the switch with the proper threads. They all are set to make contact at 1/2 bar (about 7.5 psi), which is kinda low in my opinion.

Used to be able to get the same switch with a 1 bar (14.7 psi) setting; that's what the VDO electric gauges use as a warning light illumination point, and much safer for your engine. NY1 know if the higher setting switch is still available?

cheers

If I buy the wrong one, it's not usually like I could return it.

So, does anyone know what a '76, made in 10/75 would use?

Thanks.

If you have a 1976, then it's very likely the 61 31 1 354 274

That part number is the switch with the M12x1.5 threads

The other one, 61 31 1 351 799, has M10x1 threads. That smaller thread size is found on some earlier 02's.

The way to know for sure which thread you have is to look at it yourself.

The M12x1.5 switch would have the same thread size as your wheel lug studs, if you need a size reference.

Thanks, I guess I'll remove mine and check it against known thread sizes.

Why would that be on a cold engine?

It's on top of the head, so all the oil shoulda drained to the bottom.

It's not in a "pressurized" area, is it?

Can it be avoided next time?

Kinda made a mess.

Thanks
