I can't help but laugh at the paradox that is the '02 used parts market. A side mirror sells for nearly $80, but complete doors trade hands all the time for $50-100. Complete, running cars sell for less than the price of a used dashboard.

FWIW, I paid believe I paid $10 for my replacement side mirror. Needless to say I did not go through Ebay!

here's a recent ebay sale of a passenger mirror...

With ebay, it's really hard to say the _real_ value of a part, there's just too many suckers out there that can skew the numbers.

Like with all those folks bidding more for odd tidbits than the dealer charges, just because they may feel OK paying extra, but I don't think that the real value can ever exceed that much over what BMW sells it for new.

Now with the mirror, those have gone up quite a bit in list price, but I still think $77 for a less than perfect, missing hardware used part is too much.

For example, here's a recent bargain from an auction for a NEW LH side mirror.

If ebay sales represented real value, you'd have to conclude that a used imperfect part is worth over twice what a new version costs!

my conclusions might be wrong but isn't the worth of anything what someone's willing to pay...regardless of who, what, when or where?

that particular mirror must have been worth it to the buyer......that's one benefit of ebay....many buyers (and sellers) aren't aware of actual worth and no one forces anyone to bid on any item listed..... i recall, a snorkel selling for more than $20 on ebay.....
