Hi all. I'm a non-2002 owner, but have a real fatal sweet tooth for these cars. I found this site after seeing pics of Daniel Cooper's s14-powered 2002 and Blunt's (HELLO BLUNT FROM ROADFLY E30) ongoing 2002 project.

After poking around the board, I am really impressed with the overall quality and dedication you guys have to your cars. WOW!! This place must have the highest percentage of bare-metal restorations I've seen.

So anyway, I am slowly gathering info etc. for what will hopefully be my 2002 project. I'm also curious about your take on the engine swap/non-swap issue.

I am still sorting out my current E30 and relocating out of NYC, so this is kind of a longer-term project for me, but thanks in advance for your help and informative posts. We lurkers appreciate it!

I'm also looking for a good deal on carpet (...kidding!!).

thanks all!

modify-every-last-nut-and-bolt folks, so the real answer to engine swaps, pro or con is...whatdaya want out of your car? A nice completely stock restoration to drive/show and take you back to the days when 2002s were the hot --and only--"sports sedan" on the road, or something that can keep up with modern performance cars --a wolf in sheep's clothing. Or do you want (like most of us) something in between...still mostly original but with a little tweaking for better going and handling.

That's the nice thing about '02s--with a few exceptions they're not so valuable that people are afraid to drive 'em or modify 'em, and (most) 02 owners will appreciate any version they come across...

They ain't getting any cheaper, so start looking!

cheers

Thanks guys

(sorry to posted as guest, I have no idea what happened)...

anyway, yeah I'm trying to figure out my goals right now.

Ordinarily, I'm not the biggest fans of engine swaps, but the S14 swaps i've seen for your cars look so... natural. It really seems to fit the essence of the car, odd as that may seem.

But, I've also been really impressed by what they can do with a carb'd M10, so I am researching that too. I think it's also interesting that over time, there have been a few 'waves' of 2002 restorations/build-ups...

I remember more than a few years ago I saw a 2002 where the owner had 'upgraded' from metal to rubberized bumpers to keep his car looking newer. Sort of like E30 guys with converting their 87/88 diving boards to plastic bumpers. Funny how things can be so circular.

If anyone can point me to links with what you guys consider to be 'excellent' examples of what folks are doing with their 2002s right now, I'd be real grateful.

thx again

consider attending the Bay Area 02 Swap & Show in Palo Alto (about 20 miles south of SFO) on May 20th - one of the best opportunities you'll find to see most of the possible '02 variations in one place.

With all of the '02 folks in the bay area, somebody will probably be happy to collect you at SFO (or your motel) and provide a ride to and from as well...........

I really missed out on meeting a bunch of people last year at the S&S. I guess I was too busy trying to learn how to make my oxidized pig shine like a diamond, and figuring out what boxes to drop my raffle tickets in! I swear I will make more of an effort this year :)
