HI. I have an M20 engine with something like 138K kilometers (about 86K miles) on it. What are the chances I can just drop in a set of original diameter pistons if I do a major rebuild/overhaul? I am wondering if there is a good chance I can just get away with honing the cylinders on one of these engines at this mileage?

The reason I ask, it because I found a full set of custom pistons for cheap that can use stock 325i rods with a 2.7 liter crank.

TIA

The first thing i would want to know is the compression ratio of the pistons you intend to put in. No point in putting low CR ratio pistons if your keeping it normally aspirated. design your engine accrording to what you want, eg. low CR for turbo, and high for NA.

If you find out their not suitable for your application and considering selling them please let me know.

Good luck

The pistons are 9.5:1CR. The engine came out of a wrecked car of a wife of a BMW and vintage car enthusiast, so I am keeping my fingers crossed that the engine was taken care of. I don't think she would have reved the snot out of the car like some of us might have, lol....

The pistons will be for sale if they are not of use to me. At $170, I simply could not turn them down either.......

Well at 170, i think you stole them, that's an awsome deal. What make are they? Do they pass visual inspection? like scratches, dents, foreign material bashed into upper surface.

i would hang on to them, that stuff is not easy to come by, and if you still consider selling them please e-mail me i'll buy them right now.
