Hi Board, I've read on a couple of 02 sites about installing the rear subframe mounts upside down inorder to reduce the amount of negative camber when using lowering springs. Can anyone give me a good explaination why this works, and any compromises this procedure induces? Diagrams? How much camber change results? Does this effectively move the trailing arm mounting points upward closer to the unibody?

Thanks for the responses.

If you're doing this on a street car I would leave the subframe mounts in the correct orientation (thick side up)..... because there isn't enough rear camber change to warrant a flip with H&R's or especially ST's

The other thing that happens with the rear mount flip is the diff mounts are now out of whack so you need to correct that too if you decide to do it.

The reason for the camber change is that front of the subframe is now mounted higher and thus the angle of the trailing arms is changed. It does change the pinion angle unless the differential mount is moved up also.

bushings for the dif mount. But actually it seems that if a car is dropped down 1.5 plus inches flipping the sub frame mounts isn't going to help much as it would only move the relative position of the sub maybe 1/2". However in combo with the offset bushings available from bmw (sold at wolloth and nesch)it might be just right.
