I need some opinions.

Both of my rear wheel arches are rusted through and through as you can see in the pic. I also have some rust on the bottom of my doors. In additions, my rockers are shot. I will preface this post by saying that I believe my 02 is beyond repair due to rust and I don't want to "restore" it. I don't have the money or the desire to restore it. My question is this. Do you think it's possible to repair this with fiberglass/bondo on my own as a project, and then get one of those inka spray paint cans and do a home made repair job? I'm seriously considering it, but I'm concerned with the complex body lines on the lips of the wheelwells. Has anyone tried this before? I'm just looking to improve the look a little so the rust is not the first thing people notice...

If so, what types of materials should I purchase?

Thanks,

Brian

For your back wheel areas, I would just buy a replacement wheel arch and rivet it on. They are cheap and you can always blend the edges of it with fiberglass.

I agree with Pat, if you want to do it cheap, just get something like Turbo fender flares from IE (under $300 I think). Cut out the rust, and bolt in the arches. Please don't rivet in a replacement flare though, thats just asking for a world of hurt, and more rust in a few months time. If I ever catch the PO who riveted in galvanized metal into the arches and rockers of my 02...pictures are worth 1000 words..

A tub of fibreglass, some mesh and about 6 rattle cans and there you are. It's not difficult to sand the fibreglass to match the contours. This was my rainy day driver after the Touring was refreshed.
