..THAT was 'new' cars first 'trip', after being found in a muddy parking lot.

Me restoring it's running gear, window seals, and De-Mousing.

That was a 1800 mile round trip from Connecticut, including a tour

of the Vanderbilt Biltmore estate. Now 16,000 miles later, about 10 track

lapping days at Lime Rock, and other 02 related gatherings, rallys, car shows - my 1976 2002 is happy to go anywhere, any time, at full tilt, or just around the block for a milk.

That was a grand week of BMW 2002 touring

After the reception one evening, my boys and I were one of the first to leave the BMW complex. As we left the parking lot, entered the interstate and traveled back past the BMW complex, many others had fired their cars up to leave.

Mind you, it was dark and the parking lot had the typical parking lot million watt lights. That sight was unforgettable. All those 2002 lit up with a blue cloud of smoke hovering in the lights! What a hoot....

We were laughing so hard, I did not get a picture.

I often reflect how the quality of the cars has risen since 02-02-02.

My '02 on 02-02-02. That as my tii, shortly after I bought it in 01-02, before I made it into a faux A4, and before I sold it.

I drove down from PA in "Malaga", my '76 daily driver by myself....I decided to go at the last minute and Minsoo kindly accepted my reservation. It was well worth the long tiring drive.

I got to meet many of you and put faces to the names. It was a wonderful time....especially the bratwursts and beer in the big white tent!

Hard to believe it's been 4 years ago today...glad someone remembered this year. I think I remembered & posted first last year on 02-02-05.

Would be fun to do again...

Although it seems that the V at the V event will be very well attended....

Hopefully I'll be able to see many of you again there.

I saved all of my pics on a zip drive that got stored when I changed companies. I finally went through that box last week and enjoyed looking at those pics. I didn't even think about it being 4 years ago!

I'll post my pics this weekend.

Most memorable moments for me:

Being anxious about my first road trip....the car was fairly new to me.

Hooking up with the Nashville guys and driving to SC with them.

Looking at all of those cars lines up to get on the lawn. Fortunately, I got there early and was the first car parked after the front line was established. (See Ceylon car on right in pic below)

Watching the old commercials in the theater. I used my digital camcorder and recorded those. They were cool! Especially the one of Dapper Dan & his Barbie eating at the country club, then going out to their '02 where he sped through the countryside. Next scene, he gets out, opens the trunk and there are 4 track tires and he puts on his coveralls. Next scene, driving the track. Next scene, in the winner's circle with Barbie and the Cup. Then the tag line....Something like the first sports sedan....I'll have to view it again.

Driving the autocross. Jeff from Nashville asked me if I was going to drive the Ceylon. I told him that the trip there was testing the drivetrain and I was too far from home to test the suspension. He told me to drive his Mini. I relunctantly declined. He offered again and I told him I had never driven an autocross before. He said he would co-pilot. OK, how could I refuse. Check pic below. I had one of the best times although I did miss 1 cone. It was a hoot.

LET'S DO THIS AGAIN!

I think that's in Braselton, GA. That's the car that was in the roundel a few years ago.

The bashed in silver squaretail photo was my beater that Leif bought and got SMACKED in. That was one lucky car. The last three owners were all rear-ended in that car... & it's squaretail, go figure.
