I have a ~1/2" bakelite spacer between my 32/36 Weber and the intake. Is this spacer needed? I figured it was a heat insulator, but since the intake is remote from the hottest parts of the engine, and the hot water in the intake was intended to add heat for cold weather drivability, that doesn't really make sense. I'd like to remove it to add clearance for a strut brace, and shortening the runner makes sense from a operational perspective.. can I remove it or will I incur problems?

Thanks,

Sam

here is what that thing sounds like to me:

Korman High Performance DGV Anti-Vibration Kit

High RPM vibrations will aerate the fuel in the DGV's float bowl. This causes a miss or loss of power, especially in hard cornering. Our Anti-Vibration Kit includes a special rubber base gasket, rubber isolation mounts, and all necessary hardware.

Just some food for thought.

I've used both the short and tall insulators with a 32/36 and they actually seemed to make MY car run worse. I just use 2 regular base gaskets now. There is also a specific heat resistant gasket which is of a light grey color and is probably as thick as three regular base gaskets. This seemed to work okay as well. The spacers can also make your linkage tweak at a weird angle...
