has anyone ever hinge-mounted their frp hood? im looking @ ireland's hood and it looks like it will need 4 pins or alot of fiberglass work to use hinges. w/4 pins, do you always need 2 people to remove? im just picturing an engine fire or something that will require quick removal. also, has anyone managed to attatch the stock side trim to their frp hood securely?

thanks!

..and I also do not own a BMW 2002.

I've heard about a company called Hannemann Fiberglass in CA that can make the kind that use the stock hing system. If you look 2 days back in the parts for sale board a guy named Mattew Maniurka was selling one that he got through a group buy from Coop, yet another board member. I don't know if he ever sold it, but its brand new never used so I'd jump on it if that's what I was looking for.

I have a fiberglass pin on hood that is hinged. There is a piece of aluminum that is 1/4 inch thick, by 3 inches wide, by 30 or so inches long. It is bolted to the hinges and has two hood pins mounted on the extreme outside edges. You can either remove all four pins and lift off the hood or remove the back two and hinge the hood forward. I am thinking about adding a couple of reinforcing tubes of fiberglass to stiffen it up a little.

If you hinge it,

I'm not sure it'd survive.

It is blissfully light, though...

It is insanely thin and light. Everytime you lift it off you can here cracking. It actually fairs better when it hinges forward than when you lift it off. When it's off of the car it has a tendency to blow away unless you store it in the trailer. I wouldn't know about the trim pieces as they serve no function on a race car.
