Just got a new old stock Webasto Tudor vinyl sun roof for my 75 1602, anyone had experience fitting one of these?? Do i need to take the head lineing out or can I work around it and cut it in place? Do I then remove 2 of the cross bars out of it? Whats the best way to cut the roof, thinking of a recipricating hack saw and dremel cutter. Any help and pics would be great. Cheers TA

A word of warning on Webasto's.

A former parts car that had been fitted with a webasto had developed cracks from each of the internal corners of the opening towards the A and C pillars. From memory the ones at the fron where about 1ocm long and the ones at the rear about 7.5 cm. The verdict was that the roof needed to be replaced.

I have also seen the same problem on another car, though not as severe.

I agree with "Skippy". Be careful, or cracks can occur at the corners. This wonderful looking Touring I had as a parts car had a full Webasto roof and cracks in the corners.

Never tried to fit one (and never will) but make sure the corners are well radiused to avoid creating a stress point which could induce cracking.

Looks like you have a neat car there, do you really want an aftermarket roof in it?

Personally, if you are going to have that aftermarket sunroof installed, I would have a body shop do it for you. That way you know it will be done correctly with the proper reinforcments (to avoid the cracking issues that others brought up here) and rust proofing applied. I've seen many car roofs rusting severly from poorly installed aftermarket sunroofs. Do it right the first time so you don't have any issues down the road.

It cost me GBP75 (in '86). It had a new gas tank & 4 new skinny tyres. The hatch was pretty much rust-free (a spare is must for a Touring). The chrome trim was decent as was the motor & g/box. I sold the twin headlight grills for more than I paid for the car. I basically stripped everything off that was (or would one day be) useful. The roof rack wasn't bad either; goodness only knows what the PO carried on it.

Also the black interior (seats, door panels) was in real good shape. The seats etc are still in my Xs house in the UK.
