Hi all,

I have a '70 with stock motor, 4-speed and a 32/36 that I've just tuned to CD's prescription. The car is much happier now, except that when the motor is fully warmed and I go from steady-state cruising to slight acceleration or when I lift off to shift then get back on the gas I get a bit of hesitation/flat spot. The car doesn't exhibit this behavior when choked, even slightly, or when the motor is still warming up. Maybe something with the idle circuit?

Thanks in advance!

Might be your idle jets.

I use 55s as idles. 60 tends to be too big ang unprecise while 50 is too small.

My carb jetting is also richer

I have the EXACT issue with the 02 motor I put in my 320i.

If I give it a little choke...it runs great!

Try and open up the idle mixture screw some. I've found that a carb not getting enough air sometimes seems to have a flatspot. Try to open up the idle mixture screw a little and you'll probably smooth it out a bit. Wait till it is warmed up, and then mess with the carb a little at a time and you'll find a sweet spot between the car running rough and grinding into second (too rich) and not having enough rev to get up to speed and having the rear end sort of hop some (too lean). Here in FL, I've found that carbs need to be on the open side, and they'll rev much better. Too rich and there's a flat spot. I just got the flat spot out of my Dad's ol Honda CB350 Four-motorcycle by leaning out the 4 mini carbs it has. The 69 2002 runs like a top too, and I'm going to install Electronic Ignition and a Sync-Link to my weber 32/36 and see how it will do. I think the little carb has a little more in it. We'll see...thanks to MikeM. Good luck and tweek it a little bit first before you pull anything apart.

Hi C.D.,

Yes timing is set with the light, and the accelerator pump diaphragm is in good condition/replaced recently. Will double-check timing this weekend, just to be safe.

Thanks!

Thanks for the tips everyone...I have noticed that the car seems to be idling a bit rich, so I may tinker with that a bit this weekend as well...I'll keep everybody posted!
