I recently bought a 67 1600 with a 1981 e12 motor and a weber 32/36. My goal is to get good shop manuals for the e12 and the 32/36, since the 1600 shop manual is not going to help me. I am thinking that the best option is to get a BMW e12 factory manual and refer to the engine and carb sections.

However, I am curious if there are other recommended manuals that I should be considering.

Also, I am wondering if the 1981 e12 engine come in more than one size/variety and how to determine what type I have, if that is the case.

The book, "Weber Carburetors" by Bat Braden to be very good. It explains the basic operation of Webers, and has a repair chapter on the 32/36 with great photos

Manual that my dad obtained when had the 32/36 installed on his (now my) '02 back in 1985 or 86. It covers 32 DFD, DFE, DFM, DIF and DGV and, more importantly for us, 32-36 DFV and DGV carbs.

Looks like a Weber published owner manual. If you or anybody else wants a copy, I can probably get it scanned at work and then e-mail it. Its about 20 pages.

Do you mean e12 head? There is no e12 engine. You want a shop manual that covers M10 engines. There's little difference between the actual mechanicals of a 1.6, 1.8 or 2.0 M10, it's just the odds and ends of distributor, carbs, etc. that vary.

Unless of course you have the engine FROM an e12, which would be an M30 big 6...

Thanks, that is helpful and confirms my suspicions. There is an E12 stamp on the head and I assumed that was an engine designation. I realize now that the motor is a 2.0 M10. From what you say, a BMW factory manual for a 1967 1.6 M10 should pretty much cover the 1981 2.0 M10, so I should be good once I get the BMW factory manual...supplemented with a Weber manual.
