I'm assuming the hubs will pull right off once the 36mm nut is removed...the only issue is getting the outer bearing race off of axle right? Do I need a puller? I assume so.

Also, the inner race will need to be pressed out correct?

Thanks

not come off. I've talked to people who used four jaw pullers + heat + PB Blaster + a BFH and all they did is bend the drive flange.

A good sized three jaw puller is the minimum starting place. Once you get the drive flange off, put the 36 mm nut on backwards and again with a BFH drive the stub axle out.

Once it is out, you can tap the races for the wheel bearings out with a suitable drift. Be sure you save and don't mix the spacer and shims. You're best to do one side at a time. Ignore all that poo-poo in the manual about measuring things, its only necessary if you're putting in new spacers/shims (see note above about not loosing things).

Reassembly is the reverse (well close to it)

Cheers!

It is almost a Karma type of thing.

If you are exuding good Mojo, then the hubs will drop right off in your hand and not get you dirty.

If you are on Santa's "other" list, then be prepared for an evening filled with all sorts of implements of destruction and lots of colorful language.

Sometimes the hubs will come right off, but trying to get the splined halfshaft out if bl**dy hell. There is no rhyme nor reason. On my 72, one side dropped right off and slid out, while the other one required a rather large puller and then a BFH and a gorilla to swing it to extract the halfshaft.

Two things to have on hand besides the gorilla and BFH is a pair of new 36mm nuts for the hubs as you may beat the heck out of them in the process. The other is a metric thread restoring file for cleaning up the threads on the end of the halfshaft.

I was fortunate and did mine with the whole subframe dropped and the trailing arms off.
