Seat kits from World Upholstery

Just got done installing the World front seat kit, and thought that I would pass on some pictures:

If you have been curious about these kits, I would have to give them a 2 thumbs up rating.

They are a really nice fit, the basketweave is nice, the vinyl is decent ( not quite as heavy as German). But I have new found respect for trimmers, as I spent about 12 hours re-doing my seats.

I've used materials from World Upholstery. A few years ago, for a 1974 Chamonix 2002 I had, I bought a "marine blue" rear seat backrest section from them and a front seat bottom section for the driver seat as well, very nice match and fit and about 6 years ago I bought a pair of gobi tan headrest covers for a '76 2002 I had, the headrest covers were on sale for something like $12.00 each. I had some very sore fingertips after putting the new ones on.

WOW...looks sweet! I've dying to see what their stuff looked like. Hard to get an idea from their website. :-( I've been on the fence between doing Recaros or recovering my seats. I know it's more expensive to do the latter...not to mention a project...but I love that "old school" look & smell.

Awesome site too!!

I'm not so sure! in 1991 I redid my driver's seat with their covers and horse hair pads, and could have a new Recaro for what that cost + installation.

The color was very close to OE (Marine blue), but the shape of the heated pleat was different - rectangular v. original square (or visa versa). But you'd have to be an '02 nerd to tell!!

Looks like a pretty good kit, but $$$ for what you're really getting I figure. I wouldn't want to be the guy who tries to install the thing, it looks like a lot of work!

Fortunately I know a good upholstry shop locally that will re-stuff things for a little under the table cash. They did my rear seat which came out nice...

Of course I'm really just buying time until I can do the 2002 interior I've always dreamed of... ALL LEATHER! I want to have my recaros re-covered in leather, and the rear seat as well as the door panels, and hat shelf!!! OK so I'm dreaming, but I would like to at least have the recaros done in a nice leather. I"ll have to save my pennies so I can pay Al to do it for me!!!

WOW!

That does look good.

I used Worlds(XKSS) domestic carpet kits years ago, and they were decent for the price, but I have never seen one of their seat kits.

I, too have been curious about the match of the vinyl, especially the basket weave. I have brand new horse hair pads that I have kept stored away until I get up the nerve to buy the vinyl and tear into these things.

I talked to Al a few weeks ago and he was wanting to check out "the competition". He said the vinyl that he was able to get was a really good match for the basket weave stuff, but only in black as I recall. He was curious as to Worlds pricing vs his for seat kits.

As for carpet, when I am rich(and have a non-leaking car), I will have one of Al's wool carpets. I have seen them and they is niiice.

Al...are you out there??

Do you have "kits" for the OEM seats? I'd love to see a pics!! I went to your website...but couldn't find anything. Installed or not it doesn't matter to me. I'm sure yours are better (German vinyl vs domestic). I for one would be willing to pay for "quality"!! I'm inches away from doing this.

i'm curious....what makes german vinyl better than vinyl made in the US or canada?

do you have some spec's i can look at about the manufacturing process that shows it's better?

Having seen the World vinyl, it looks like a nice fit, but the vinyl isn't the same feel as what you'd find in better material. I'm sure it will look great for a while, and I"m sure it's a fine product. I'm guessing you won't get 25years out of it, but hey, by then we'll all be driving hydrogen powered emissions controlled no fun veehikles.

Remember when I posted you get what you pay for? Ummmm, yah, funny that way the world works sometimes.

The German stuff is not always better than newer 'Mercan stuff, but it does tend to be more correct(in looks and feel or grain) for the car. This logic could probably be applied to almost anything. Inexpensive tools at Harbor Freight may work just fine for a job, but they may not have the same feel or longevity of a more expensive Snap On tool. A real Tiffany leaded glass shade may look just fine with a replacement pane installed, but to the purists, it may just never seem "correct" and its' value will suffer. Cubic Zirconias and Real Diamonds?...

For me it comes down to what I want, and what I can afford.

I want the absolute best, correct, original stuff I can get.

What I can afford usually depends on such things as paying for my sons orthodontist, a mortgage, food, and getting REAL diamonds for my wife.

Yup, I'm here. A little busy in the office the past few days, but drop me an email for more info and pricing. May take me a couple days to get back to you though. There's something HUGE cooking up here for me right now, but I don't want to let everyone know what's going on yet. It will do nothing but good for Seams Perfect, and for our clients.

Esty, for goodness sakes, would you PLEASE spell Canada with a capital C?
