Hi Board,

I'm new to this forum, and have a question. I've installed a set of 14" BBS/BMW Basketweave wheels on my '73 tii but can't get the front center cap for the wheels to fit and lock down. The problem seems to be interference with the front wheel bearing grease/dust cap protruding out too far. Has anyone else had this problem? Are there smaller 'lower profile' grease/dust caps available? Wheel spacers?

Thanks in advance for responses.

my former BBS 14 inch basketweaves had plastic center caps. I used silicone to keep them on the wheel. Caps that fit and clear dust cap are out there. That is all you should need. If you have 4 lug BBS wheels, the cap should be inside the lug nuts. I will look around for extra caps. Put an WTB in the for sale. You do not need spacers, dfferent dust caps, for this problem. Spacer is for another adjustment, dust caps are uniform. Good luck- also, all black center caps also work without the BBS decal.

Thank you for the response. The center caps on the wheels I have are a large plate, about 4" in diameter, that cover the lugnuts. The center caps have a large hexagonal rotating 'nut ' that rotates and locks the cap in place on the wheel. The grease/dust cap for the front wheel bearing interferes with the locking mechanism on the center cap.

those sound like early 3 series wheels. I have seen the smaller locking center caps at swap meets. You should be able to find them on the WTB for sale area. Your description is right on. The seller will know what to send to you. Sorry- I do not have these. I only have the 15 inch 5 lug lockers for my M325ic. I hope I do not throw one on the street. Hard to match " patina" of the wheel. Good luck.

with the wheel on I used a flat punch using the inner part of the cap opening as my guide to flatten the outside diameter of the dust cap. that worked for me.
