I bought a camshaft from Ireland in the fall, their hard-welded 316 race cam. It took a while to get, since the factory that does them seemed to lose the order, but it came in and looked really good. That cam is supposed to be welded and ground with very close to the stock base circle so no lash caps or oversize eccentrics are needed. When I installed the cam, I noticed that the base circle was undersize and oversize eccentrics would be needed.

I wasn't concerned about the undersize base circle since I have run many cams that were ground that way. I called Ireland to discuss - he agreed that the cam should have been ground differently, agreed with me that oversize eccentrics were a good solution, and shipped them to me completely free of charge. I didn't even have to suggest that or ask in any way.
